    Q&A: Pre-theater dinner, king cakes

Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: I’m going to see “Beautiful Noise” this weekend. Where should we go for pre-theater eats?
Tom: Lucky you! First place I would recommend is a block away from the Blumenthal Arts Center, The Asbury at the Dunhill Hotel. Really lovely menu and a good bet you won’t be late for the curtain rise. A few blocks in the other direction is Coquette, one of my favorite places to eat uptown with its French bistro fare. Eddie V’s is a pretty short walk as well with a cool vibe and accessible menu.

Q:  Where can I grab a King Cake before Mardi Gras?
Tom: If you go by Manolo Betancurs’ social media posts, Manolo’s Bakery on Central is in full King Cake mode — as are Renaissance Pâtisserie in SouthPark and Suarez Bakery at the Park Road Shopping Center. If you are a bit north of town, you can also find King Cakes at Chocolatier Barrucand in Concord. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
