UP: Well, thanks! I had some great mocktails from Amanda Robertson at Merchant & Trade recently. I’ve also had great ones at Fin & Fino. Honestly, most bartenders are happy to make an off-menu mocktail. When the new concept from Soul Gastrolounge’s owners opens up later this year, there will be a house-made shrub and soda program. There will also be a lot of zero-proof options at Barrister’s; executive chef Kyle McKnight practices a sober lifestyle.

Q: What are the best local restaurants that accommodate a larger group reservation (8 people) for a birthday?
UP: I’m assuming you don’t want a private dining room, so we’ll go with places that have the space for your group! I’ve been to birthday dinners at Crêpe Cellar where they have no problem putting together a bunch of tables for a large group. It’s around the corner from the main dining room, so it feels like you have the freedom to be loud but aren’t cut off the from the rest of the restaurant. Dogwood Southern Table & Bar has large high-top tables at the bar that could fit eight easily if you’re looking to celebrate with some fantastic cocktails. Some other great options that could easily fit a birthday party in vibe and space: Stoke, O-Ku, and Carpe Diem.

Q: Why does Reid’s only offer medium or medium well burgers for their special?
UP: This reader was told by a server that she couldn’t get a burger cooked medium-rare during Reid’s Fine Foods half-priced burger happy hour. When I checked in with owner Tom Coker, he was extremely apologetic and said he’d learned about this exchange from his staff and was hoping to learn who the diner was to make things right, as the server was in the wrong. They’ve connected, and we’ve confirmed: you can order your burger any way you’d like at Reid’s, and it will be half price.
