Q&A: Is Coquette worth the hype and other questions

Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: Is Coquette worth the hype?
Tom: It’s certainly worth checking out. My only experience there so far was for the Uptown restaurant’s media night, a.k.a, “best foot forward night.” I can tell you what I had that night ranged from very good to phenomenal (those potato croquettes!). I’m eager to try it out during normal operations. You can expect a full review once the restaurant has a chance to settle in a bit.

    Q. Do we have any idea what happened to Mike Noll?
Kristen: UPPY’s 2022 Chef of the Year is still in Charlotte, but focusing on his health right now. We’ll keep you posted with his plans because we’re eager to see him cook again.

    Q. Who’s hiring?
Tom: In the Charlotte hospitality scene? Pretty much everyone. Area bars and restaurants are still having trouble getting to full staff, post-pandemic and “The Great Resignation.” If you got the chops, you can land a job easily. There are some Facebook groups that might help steer you to your next gig, such as Chefs of Charlotte (private group), Charlotte’s Industry, and Charlotte Restaurant Jobs.

Q: I was at Camp North End recently and noticed a place called The Perch. I can’t find any information about it online. Do you have any details about this mysterious place?
Tom: A name like “The Perch” would be great for a seafood restaurant, but alas, that’s not the case. It’s not a food-related venue. The Perch is a rooftop space designed for social gatherings, corporate retreats, and similar private events. It is a pretty space, though, designed by NoDa-based designer Annie Fair.
