Q&A: Goodie bags, StrEATs speaker
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: Have you tried the new Goodie Bag app yet?
Tom: I’ve looked at it. I haven’t been able to take advantage of it yet, but I do love the concept. Available on the iOS and Android platforms, Goodie Bag seeks to help local businesses and reduce food waste by allowing businesses to sell bags of unsold food, typically at one-third the retail cost. This is especially helpful for items with a short shelf life, such as baked goods, pizza, and fresh juices. I spoke with Wentworth & Fenn’s Sam Ward about how it’s working on the seller’s end. “It’s great,” she says. “We’ll be offering bags at the beginning of each week.”
Q: Can you tell us who will be the featured speaker at this year’s StrEATs?
Tom: Well, we can, but not just yet. It’s a real good one too! Look for the official announcement on the StrEATs website VERY soon. In the meantime, you can vote for the StrEATs 2024 Neighborhood Cookoff participants and score some tasting tour tickets.
