    Q&A: Finding yeast and ramps

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: Can I still get ramps anywhere around town?
UP: Your last call for ramps is probably this week, and we only know of one place left that’s got them. Halcyon’s Ad Hoc menu, an $18 per person three-course meal, has ramps in its street corn and zucchini salad, and shrimp and grits. The Uptown restaurant is also offering free delivery to homes within five miles of the restaurant. A new menu is released each week.

Q: I want to give my daughter-in-law a gift of a subscription to your newsletter. What’s the best way to do that?
UP: We really appreciate you thinking of us, and your support. You can purchase a gift subscription here, and if you’d like a gift card to be shipped, e-mail us your address and we’ll get it on its way.

Q: Yeast is sold out just about everywhere. Is there anywhere local I can get some?!
UP: Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen is giving yeast away with Family Table Meal orders of $25 or more. We got some with our salmon meal last week! Elsewhere, we’re seeing the same as you — sold out everywhere.

Q: Is it peach season yet?!
UP: Peaches aren’t quite in season yet, but we did get some at the South End Market last weekend! They certainly weren’t at their peak yet, but hey, they’re fresh, local peaches. According to the N.C. Department of Agriculture, peach season officially kicks off in early June. They’d make great sangria, and Kel Minton’s recipe uses them!
