Q&A: Charleston, Italian subs
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: Need some go-to spots for a Charleston trip coming up. Eight dudes, so not necessarily fancy.
Kristen: Fun! I think 167 Raw is a great place to catch up with friends with a beer or bubbles and a few dozen oysters. The Ordinary is big enough to accommodate that size party for dinner, and I really enjoy the cocktails there. For a casual dinner, try Leon’s or Italian spot Melfi’s.
Q: Where’s the best real Italian sub?
Kristen: I’d suggest checking out The Capo at The Culture Shop in Belmont or visiting Pasta & Provisions for The Royale.
Q: Do you have any suggestions for ordering barbecue ribs for a birthday party?
Kristen: Yes! Check out Sweet Lew’s. If you’re doing a family gathering, you can order family-sized sides and meat by the pound. The ribs are dry-rubbed, smoked, and served with Sweet Lew’s sauce. Midwood Smokehouse also has a menu for larger orders. Get the banana pudding, too!
