    Q&A: Best Asian-owned restaurants, Supperland

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: I’d like to support Asian-owned establishments this week. Any recommendations?
Kristen: Yes, certainly! Some of my favorites include The Dumpling Lady, Le’s Banh Mi, Hibiscus, and Rai Lay. For wine, check out Assorted Table Wine Shoppe in 7th Street Public Market. Our friends at Appetite + Adventure are doing an Instagram campaign where they’re asking followers to tag them when they dine out at an Asian restaurant, and they’ll donate up to $500 to Advancing Justice.

Q: I went to Supperland on Sunday and it was closed, with a sign on the door. What happened?
Kristen: There was a positive Covid-19 case in the building, so they closed as a precaution. According to owner Jeff Tonidandel, the staff was tested and they’ve opened back up, but with employees working around 80 hours a week, they don’t have any backup to keep the place running while tests are taking place. These days, with restaurants being forced to close suddenly (and little to no staff in the building to manage the phones) we recommend checking restaurants’ social media accounts before heading out to a reservation.
