Orrman’s Cheese Shop will relocate within The Market at 7th Street, taking the anchor space at the back of the Uptown food hall. The new space is twice the size, according to owner Rachel Klebaur, and will enable Orrman’s to widen their selections — with the biggest growth among the charcuterie options. The current cheese case at Orrman’s will become home to charcuterie, and a larger cheese case is in place at the new space to hold the cheeses. There will also be a larger retail space that customers can peruse much more easily than in the current space.
“It’s difficult to reach the shelves because you’re right up against the cheese counter,” Klebaur says of the current space. “You can see the products, but you can’t necessarily take them down and browse them; you have to ask for them right now. So this is a totally browsable retail section that I’m excited for.”
Klebaur made the decision to move last spring, but struggled to find a contractor willing to take on their small project. The new space should be complete in the coming days, and Orrman’s will close for a few days next week to move into the new space before kicking off service there following a health inspection.
The food stall will continue to serve its current menu of grilled cheeses before expanding options and adding more variety to the menu later on.
Along with this latest expansion comes a new website, which will allow customers to order nearly anything in the shop online for pickup or shipping. While Klebaur says she has some anxiety over the move given most Uptown offices haven’t yet returned to in-person work yet, during the pandemic Orrman’s has increased the number of customers it ships to and is hoping to expand its restaurant customers once in the new space — all while retaining its loyal regulars.
“The pandemic made me realize we have a strong customer base and that really did keep us going throughout the last two years,” Klebaur says.
Mano Bella Artisan Foods will move into the former Orrman’s space.
