New service offers CSA-style meals from the city’s top restaurants
Kindred, The Goodyear House, and The Stanley are in the 10-week rotation
Freshlist, a company that sources from local farms to provide both restaurants and home diners with produce and proteins, is offering a new service: meals, delivered to your home or picked up, prepared by local restaurants. They’re calling it Community Supported Restaurants, a play on Community Supported Agriculture, or CSAs, where customers sign up and pay in advance to regularly receive farm produce.
Each week for 10 weeks, starting on Feb. 5, those who take part in Community Supported Restaurants will receive a meal for two from a local restaurant that they can reheat and serve at home. The restaurants taking part are among the biggest supporters of the local food economy: 300 East, Good Food on Montford, The Goodyear House, Haberdish, Kindred Restaurant, Leah & Louise, Mimosa Grill, Plant Joy, Sea Level NC, and The Stanley. The 10-week, 10-meal subscription costs $600.
Delivery is available in the areas surrounding Freshlist’s Belmont headquarters, and pick up locations include Freshlist headquarters, Free Range Brewing, Lenny Boy Brewing, Tip Top Market, and 7th Street Public Market.
According to Freshlist founder Jesse Leadbetter, the CSR is a way for them to help support both the restaurants and farmers during the pandemic. With the exception of Valentine’s Day, restaurant sales are historically slow during January, February, and March, and due to dining room limitations, farmers who focus on supplying restaurants have struggled to move their products.
To start, Freshlist will only offer 25 of the restaurant subscriptions, with hopes of growing the program soon, Leadbetter says. You can sign up or learn more here.
