Enjoy restaurant-quality meals for your celebration at home
The first full week of September brings two holidays: Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah, which begins on Monday. Whether you’re looking for a traditional cookout or celebrating the Jewish New Year, restaurants continue to offer family-style meals for those who feel safest celebrating at home. Here’s what restaurants around town are offering. Jewish deli pop-up Meshugganah is sold out of Rosh Hashanah offerings, but is taking preorders for Yom Kippur.
Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen, LoSo
Order items a la carte in servings for one or four people on this traditional menu of Rosh Hashanah dishes. Options include challah and apple buckle cake, brisket, wild bass, salads, and sides. Order online by Sept. 2 for pickup or delivery on Sept. 7 between 3 and 6 p.m.
Community Matters Café, West Charlotte
This non-profit restaurant trains adults in Charlotte Rescue Mission’s recovery program for careers in hospitality. For Labor Day, the staff is serving up meals for four to six people, with spinach and artichoke dip, brisket, roasted chicken, baked beans, mashed sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and chocolate cake. Order online for pick up Friday, Sept. 3 between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. $150.
Copain Gatherings
This weekend’s features from Copain include dishes fit for Labor Day: burgers, steaks, potato salad, and pimento cheese. Order online a la carte for pick up at the South Park space on Saturday (closed Sundays and Mondays).
Little Mama’s, SouthPark
The newest restaurant from FS Foods Group is serving a menu of chicken with olives and potatoes, roasted salmon, brisket, spinach salad, roasted cauliflower, and apple honey cake. The meal serves four to six people. Order online by Sept. 2 at noon for pickup on Sept. 5. $150.
Midwood Smokehouse
Party packs are available year-round at all of Midwood Smokehouse’s locations, feeding any number of guests from four to 24. Select your favorite of the restaurant’s meats and sides, including pork, brisket, mac-and-cheese, baked beans, and collards. Order 24 hours in advance.
Something Classic, delivery
Give your Labor Day celebration a beachy twist with Something Classic’s seashell box, with your choice of seafood boil, tomato pie, or chicken pot pie served with deviled eggs, ham biscuits, onion dip, and pie. Order online by Sept. 1 for delivery on Sept. 3 or Sept. 4. $125; additional $25 for seafood boil.
Sweet Lew’s BBQ
To celebrate the end of summer and the start of Panthers season, Sweet Lew is serving a football package with two pounds of pork with buns, pint of slaw, quart of mac and cheese, and quart of banana pudding or dirt pie. You can also order $30 racks of full spare ribs, which weigh in at about four pounds. Order by phone. $45.

Enjoy two pounds of pulled pork, coleslaw, marinated chicken breasts, watermelon feta salad, potato salad, pasta salad, and cookies delivered to your door for finishing and enjoying at home. Order online by 1 p.m. on Sept. 1 for delivery on Sept. 3. Serves up to six; $99.
Yafo Kitchen, Dilworth
Celebrate the Jewish New Year with Yafo’s to-go meal, which includes pomegranate-braised whole chicken, wild cod tagine, apple and Brussels sprouts salad, stuffed squash, couscous, challah, and apple honey cake. Each meal serves four to six people. Brisket can be added to your meal for $35 per 1.5 pounds. Order online by Aug. 31 for pickup on Sept. 5 between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.
