Joe and Katy Kindred are traveling to Raleigh this weekend for a fundraising dinner on Sunday at Poole’s Diner. Poole’s is owned by James Beard Award-winning chef Ashely Christensen, who became a friend of the Kindreds as they opened their first restaurant, Kindred, in Davidson. The Kindreds also own Hello, Sailor.

The dinner, part of Christensen’s Stir the Pot series, is a benefit for the Southern Foodways Alliance, or SFA. The culinary organization helps to document and research food and its history in the South.

Joe Kindred, executive chef Kindred, will cook a four-course meal, and Katy Kindred will pair wines with each dish. I’ve always been impressed with and intrigued by Katy’s wine selections; she never lets what’s mainstream sway her palate.

Christensen’s Stir the Pot dinners take place twice a year, with past guests including Jean-Paul Bourgeois of Blue Smoke in New York, as well as Memphis chefs Mike Hudman and Andy Ticer.

There are still a few tickets available; the dinner costs $150.

Here’s what Christensen said of the Kindreds in announcing the dinner:

“Not only are we obsessed with their restaurants—seriously, if you haven’t been, book yourself a trip to go visit them—but we’re huge fans of them as people. They’ve built a business and a team that puts giving and community first, and we’re constantly learning from their approach and following their cues on leadership.”
