Frontline Foods expands into Charlotte
The non-profit is paying restaurants to feed hospital workers
National organization Frontline Foods has expanded to Charlotte. The non-profit is a partner organization of Jose Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, and provides free meals to health care workers. It does so through local restaurants, which are paid to prepare, individually package, and deliver the meals.
The Charlotte chapter was launched by Mary Frank Swaim, Julia Simon of Nourish, Lisa MacDonald, John Luebke, and Marcia Merrill in late March.
To be involved, restaurants must have the capacity to prepare at least 50 meals and deliver them. The individually packaged meals should cost around $20 and include options for a variety of diets. The non-profit works mostly with locally owned restaurants to help ease the financial struggles of small business owners. Since kicking off, Frontline Foods has expanded to 26 cities.
So far in Charlotte, Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen, Nourish, The Dumpling Lady, Sabor Latin Street Grill, Common Market, Leah & Louise, and 300 East are taking part. The first delivery, which included 75 meals, went to Novant’s Huntersville Medical Center and was provided by Common Market.
The non-profit is seeking donations to help pay for the meals. If you’d like to donate, you can do so here. —Kristen Wile
