    Five Charlotte Breweries win at the Great American Beer Festival

    North Carolina won 11 awards total


    Several local breweries were awarded medals last week in the country’s biggest beer competition — including two golds. The Brewers Association awarded 272 medals to 240 breweries virtually across the country during the 2020 Great American Beer Festival competition on Friday, October 15 during the two-day online programming portion of the festival. The best beers in 91 categories were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals during a virtual ceremony hosted on The Brewing Network. 

    The judges evaluated 8,806 entries from 1,702 breweries from all 50 states and Washington D.C. The Great American Beer Festival, founded in 1982, is the largest collection of U.S. beer ever served, in a public tasting event plus private competition. 

    Of the 272 medals awarded, North Carolina won 11 awards. Of the eleven, Mecklenburg County breweries one six. Here are the local breweries that won.
