Barcelona Wine Bar has been mum on announcing an opening date, and quietly opened in South End last night.
The tapas bar serves a blend of Spanish, Mediterranean, and South American cuisine, and has locations in eight states and Washington, D.C. In the kitchen locally is executive chef Nicolas Daniels, who most recently opened Loft & Cellar. Born in Chile, Daniels is a natural fit for the restaurant. His sous chef is Kevin Sickles.
The restaurant is one of several recent and upcoming additions to the Design Center on Camden Road. On the menu at Barcelona Wine Bar is a large charcuterie and cheese section, as well tapas options such as plancha dishes, empanadas, and seafood. We’re especially excited about the empanadas; the ones Daniels served at Loft & Cellar were transportive. Larger shared plates include paella and whole snapper. Check out a sample menu here. There is also an expansive wine selection.
According to Daniels, the most popular dish on opening night was the lamb pintxos. Read our earlier story announcing Daniels’ role as executive chef here. —Kristen Wile
