    Bakers host a month-long bake sale to support For the Culture

    The print magazine celebrates Black women in food and beverage


    During the month of June, a rotating list of bakers will serve special offerings—from doughnuts to hand pies to pastry boxes—with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support For the Culture magazine. The baked goods for sale are through their own businesses for pickup and delivery.

    For the Culture is a biannual, nationally printed food magazine that celebrates Black women in food and beverage created by cookbook author and writer Klancy Miller. The stories, photography, and illustrations are all written and created by Black women, the first magazine of its kind. Miller wants to create a publication that creates a community centering on the stories and perspectives of Black women chefs, restaurateurs, farmers, food stylists, writers, bloggers, bakers, sommeliers, bartenders, food activists, and entrepreneurs. 

    Jenelle Kellam and Keia Mastrianni, organizers of the bake sale in Charlotte, hope to raise $5,000 to support the magazine’s first publication. You can read more about For the Culture here

    Week of June 1- June 7

    • Jasmine Macon: One-day only sale through Leah and Louise on Friday June 5

    Week of June 8-June 14 

    • Move That Dough Baking Co: Gluten-free fudge doughnuts
    • Quientina Stewart: 4-pack Roasted sweet potato scones with candied orange zest and brandy soaked golden raisins. 
    • Craft Cakes CLT: Cake Cup (coconut cake with strawberry-rhubarb cream)

    Week of June 15-June21

    • Move That Dough Baking Co: Gluten-free fudge doughnuts
    • Milk Glass Pie: Box of (3) berry hand pies 

    Week of June 22-28

    • Move That Dough Baking Co: Gluten-free fudge doughnuts
    • AugustJune Desserts: 6 Everything Oatmeal cookies 
    • Chef Tie Lewis: Summer Brunch Cupcake Bundle, 6 cupcakes, 3 flavors(mimosa, maple bacon, and fresh berries & cream)
    • Wentworth & Fenn: Variety Pastry Box

    Week of June 29

    • Move That Dough Baking Co: Gluten-free fudge doughnuts
    • Milk Glass Pie: Box of (3) hand pies 
    • Moon Box Bakes: Galaxy cookies with blueberries/white chocolate
