20-buck bottle: Meet Torrontes, a grape you’ll want to know

Give pinot grigio a rest and try this refreshing substitute

Wine: 2017 Susana Balbo CRIOS Torrontes, Argentina
    Available at: Whole Foods
    Price: $15.99

On the nose: Spicy with orange peel with a light gardenia aroma
On the palate:  This balanced wine has a medium body, with a hint of sweetness, medium acidity and a long finish
On the plate: We’d pair this wine with crab cakes, sushi, ling cod, tofu, or mac-and-cheese night.

Our take: Torrontes is getting more respect as a versatile white wine that is food-friendly — and that respect is well-deserved.

Fun fact: Susana Balbo is the first female oneologist in Argentina. She has been making some of the best wine from Argentina since 1991, including with her other brand, Ben Marco.
