20-Buck Bottle: Bright, fresh sauvignon blanc

A Marlborough winner from New Zealand

2021 Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ

    Available at: Whole Foods
    Price: $18.99

On The Nose: Lime, crisp, light floral notes
On The Palate:  Peach, apricot, orange, fresh cut grass, moderate acidity
On The Plate:  Marinated artichokes, salad Niçoise, chicken salad, flounder

Our Take: This is a very well balanced New Zealand Sauvignon. Not a high amount of acid, and it is crisp, refreshing, and food friendly.

Fun Fact: The Johnson family set up this winery in the 1990s and are now recognized as a New Zealand Sustainable Winegrowing property. They dry farm (no irrigation), use solar energy, and have planted hundreds of native trees on their land. The winemaker is Wendy Stuckey, formerly of Chateau Ste. Michelle and Constellation Brands’ chief wine director in New Zealand. Spy Valley received its name from a U.S. government listening post located at the edge of the valley.
