by Anita Skogland

2021 Funaro Passo di Luna Rosso Nero d’Avola/Syrah blend, Sicily, Italy

Available at: Assorted Table Wine & Shop, The Market at Seventh Street
Price: $19.99

On The Nose: Dark cherry, spice, light oak, espresso
On The Palate: Balanced tannin and acidity, medium+ body, plum, supple, black pepper
On The Plate: Enjoy alongside pasta with tomato sauce, lamb, goat, hearty kale salad, Beyond burgers, roasted root vegetables

Our Take: A weeknight wine for winter, this wine is juicy and full of flavor, and best enjoyed with a good meal and a crackling fireplace.

Fun Fact: This is a family-owned winery located in the Santa Ninfa area of Sicily. Brothers and sisters do all the work, including Rosario, who is the head winemaker. The farm has a biodynamic certification, and the grapes are harvested only at night to ensure that the ripeness is protected by the cooler temperatures, and sulfites are not used to protect from rot.
