Our Take: A good value wine with balance and finesse
Fun Facts: Beaujolais is located at the southern end of Burgundy. Gamay is the grape used for Beaujolais; Burgundy’s main red grape is pinot noir. Many consumers are familiar with Beaujolais Nouveau, which is typically shipped at the end of November after only a few months of fermentation. This short production process yields a slightly sweet wine with very little character. The Beaujolais-Villages wines are aged 10-12 months in open-topped stainless steel or concrete vats. This process is called carbonic maceration. The Village’s wines are more well-rounded and have depth and character.
