Our Take: Rosé is a favorite for year-round consumption. Lively, decent, well-priced, and refreshing.
Fun Facts: Blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Mourvedre grapes. The Frugalpac bottle was developed by a UK company. It is made from recycled cardboard and lined with a food-grade PET pouch. The cardboard is preprinted; the closure is a screw cap. Once the wine is consumed, you can separate the cardboard and pouch and recycle them both. A typical case of wine weighs 40 lbs., a case of Carbon-Nay! weighs 24 lbs. The shipping costs for this wine are lower, so more wine can ship using less fuel, and the package production uses a lot less fuel. Glass uses a lot of energy to produce due to the intense heat it takes to turn sand into glass. The Frugalpac company has built a production facility in California. Currently, this wine is only available at Whole Foods. Randall Grahm, the founder of Bonnie Doon Vineyards, was the first producer to stop using corks as closures in 2002 on all their products, citing the freshness of wines with screwcaps and the conservation of an endangered tree.
