20-Buck Bottle: A beautiful Gavi from Italy

Finding this grape and this quality and price is rare

2020 Produttori Del Gavi ‘Il Forte’ Gavi, Piedmont, Italy

Available at: Assorted Table Wine and Shop, The Market at Seventh Street
Price: $18.99

On the Nose: Hazelnut, stone fruit, mineral, honey
On the Palate:  Assertive acidity balanced by tropical fruit and lime
On the Plate: Summer pasta with fresh tomato, pan-seared trout, charcuterie, fruit salad

Our Take: The bright gold hue is seductive. It is uncommon to find a Gavi of this quality and finesse, at this price, in North Carolina.

Fun Fact: Produttori del Gavi is a co-op that formed in 1951 by 83 families. It is located in the Italian Piedmont, north of Genoa. The grape used is 100 percent cortese, from various growers. The high mineral character of the soil in this area yields a sharp, crisp, well-made Gavi.
