Q&A: Thoughts on Amelie’s news, bridal shower spots
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Amelie’s in NoDa. Kristen Wile/UP
Q: What are your thoughts on Amelie’s moving from NoDa?
UP: I’m surprised by the reaction to it, especially given that nothing is definite yet. (For those who weren’t following, Amelie’s may relocate because the owner of their building is considering selling). Also, I think the release of (and uproar caused by) the story benefits Amelie’s, because it makes the developers look like they’re taking away a neighborhood gem. I don’t really blame the developer for wanting to take advantage of the land they have. There’s a lot of potential there that’s not being met by the current building structure.
Q: What’s a great place to take a group of 10 for a brunch/lunch bridal shower? It will be on a Sunday.
UP: Napa on Providence is a favorite for bridal showers! I also really like Crêpe Cellar for events like this, because they can give you space without putting you in a private dining room and cutting you off from the rest of the restaurant. Corkbuzz has a private dining room I think you’ll love, ans should be just about the right size. Other restaurants with small private spaces open for lunch include Stoke, Upstream, and Vivace. Another idea is to grab catering from a place like Earl’s Grocery and reserve a space at a brewery!
Q: Are the restaurants actually going to be serving food from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Taste of Charlotte?
UP: It seems so, yes! I called Stoke’s Chris Coleman to check on this, and he said they do plan on staffing a station for the entirety of the 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. days on Friday and Saturday as well as Sunday. If things get stormy or the crowd thins out around 10:30 p.m., though, I wouldn’t be surprised to see people packing up.
Q: Will we see you at Taste of Charlotte?
UP: Weather dependent! My heat tolerance is rapidly declining, but I might be out and about tomorrow morning for some Instagramming if it’s not too hot or raining! If you aren’t already, follow us on Instagram!
