Q&A: Parties for wine lovers, relaxed cocktail bars

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

The tapenade bruschetta at The Artisan’s Palate. Kristen Wile/UP

Q: What’s the best laid back place for two couples to get cocktails on a Saturday night?
Kristen: I really like The Artisan’s Palate for low-key! They have an easygoing indoor/outdoor space and often host live music, and the menu includes lots of sharable things. Dilworth Tasting Room’s SouthPark patio is a nice spot to sit with a cheese plate and some cocktails. If you’re looking for some really great drinks, the mixologist at Hibiscus Thai is incredible. You should also check out The Grinning Mule, which has a neighborhood vibe but thoughtful craft cocktails.

Q: Where would you recommend having a 40th birthday party for someone who loves wine more than beer? Not sit down, and preferably in the Uptown area.
Kristen: I’d reach out to a few local wine shops! Two good choices for that size party are Vin Master in South End and Petit Philippe in Myers Park. Both can help with catering recommendations they work with regularly. If you’d prefer to just have people drop in and out, check out Rosie’s Coffee & Wine Garden.
