Q&A: Moroccan cuisine, our favorite barbecue
Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: I am looking for an authentic Moroccan restaurant/chef that offers catering (70 people). Delivery preferable, take and bake also an option! Any recommendations? Also, your favorite Moroccan restaurant for dining?
Kristen: Unfortunately, with the closure of Ajbani on Central Avenue, Charlotte lost its only Moroccan restaurant. In fact, I asked around and got only one recommendation for a Moroccan cook in Charlotte — and that’s from my Moroccan neighbor. I’ve reached out to confirm she does catering. Greensboro has a Moroccan food truck. If you have a big budget and can compensate for the drive, Yafo chef Shai Fargian recommended Tandem in Carrboro. Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen hosts Moroccan classes every now and then — it might be best to learn to cook it yourself! I’ll keep digging on this one, and readers, if you have any suggestions, please comment below.
Q: What’s your favorite barbecue in Charlotte?
Kristen: Sweet Lew’s! Their barbecue is dependably good, made with quality meats, and paired with signature sauces — although lately I’ve been really into their fried fish of the day, because it’s hard to find it better elsewhere. When entertaining out-of-town guests and seeking a more leisurely table-service experience, we head to Midwood Smokehouse.

Jon G’s is the best BBQ in the state of NC. It’s 45 minutes away from Charlotte and only open on Saturdays but it is Texas BBQ at it’s finest.
