Q&A: Local goods without markets, pastrami, and soup

Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: With so many farmers markets closed this weekend, where can I get local goods?
Kristen: It depends on what you need! Pasta & Provisions sells Windy Hill meat products. Local Loaf is having its daily market in NoDa tonight, if you have time to swing by there. I often grab eggs and apple cider at The Culture Shop. Lastly, most Harris Teeter locations have a small display of produce from Barbee Farms — I picked up some butternut squash this week.

Q: Where’s the best place to get a hot pastrami sandwich?
Kristen: Thanks to Tom’s recommendation, we recently named the one from Good Wurst Co. a don’t-miss dish. He also suggests Katz Deli.

Q: I’d like to stock up on soup before it rains! Where can I get some good frozen options?
Kristen: Good idea! I’ve got to recommend Pasta & Provisions again. Reid’s is another good option; I personally love Brave Bone Broth on a cold day, and they carry it. We order a lot of vegan soups from Nourish through Freshlist. Copain sells seasonal soups, too, that you can throw in the freezer pretty easily. I’m planning on making this mushroom barley soup over the weekend, and storing some in the freezer.
