Q&A: Chinese restaurants, daily specials
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: A number of us who are transplants from the northeast region of the US have been trying to find a restaurant that serves the type of Chinese food that you can find in the northeast. There are a lot of Chinese restaurants in the area that serve upscale or authentic Szechuan food. But not necessarily the kind of food (egg foo yung as an example) that you can find north of here. Suggestions?
Tom: I feel you. Although I love the many artisanal Chinese restaurants in the area (look for some reviews soon), sometimes you just want to dig into a good lo mein, kung pao chicken, or sha cha beef. There are some good options around town, but sadly most ended sitdown service when the lockdown hit and haven’t resumed the ability to dine in. You can still grab some good takeout though. My favorites are Ho Ho Cherry House on 7th Street and 88 China Bistro on 4th Street.
Q: Where can I find the best daily specials?
Tom: You’ve come to the right place! We’ve created a separate list of Charlotte-area daily food specials. Check it out!
