Buffalo Trace has donated a bottle from its 6 millionth barrel of bourbon to a local charity. ArtPop Street Gallery, a non-profit that looks to boost local artists by putting their art on billboards around the city, will raffle off the bottle as a fundraiser.
The online raffle kicks off officially on Monday, Nov. 25, but tickets are already available for purchase. Entries are 10 for $50 or 20 for $75, and the drawing will take place on Monday, Dec. 9 at 9 a.m.
Buffalo Trace donated all 400 bottles from their six millionth barrel to charities for fundraising. ArtPop’s bottle is number 123 of the 400. The bourbon was aged for 10 years, 11 months, and comes in a keepsake wooden box with piece of a stave from the barrel it was aged in. Each millionth barrel of Buffalo Trace gets its own one-barrel rick house at Buffalo Trace’s Frankfort distillery. In order to offer the bottles to more charities, the bottles are 375 ml.
ArtPop founder Wendy Hickey says they hope to raise at least $2,500 from the raffle. Each $500 raised pays for an artist’s work to be recreated on vinyl that can be displayed on a billboard. Along with giving artists exposure from their billboards, ArtPop provides a high school senior with a college scholarship and a business course on sustainably working and living as an artist. The nonprofit also hosts quarterly meet-and-greets with artists at pop-up gallery shows.
This isn’t the first time ArtPop has been gifted a bottle from Buffalo Trace. They auctioned off a bottle of O.F.C. in 2016, and brought in $5,500 for the group. Get your raffle tickets here. The lucky winner must pick up the bottle in Charlotte. —Kristen Wile
