Kindred and Hello, Sailor co-owner and executive chef Joe Kindred is lending his name to the menu at American Express’s new airport lounge. The Centurion Lounge at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport opens to the public today, located in the plaza between the D and E concourses.
The 13,000-square-foot seating area and bar are open to certain AmEx card holders. Kindred is the lounge’s executive chef, and though he won’t be physically present there, he has conceptualized the lounge menu, which includes dishes such as buttermilk fried chicken and Carolina slaw; country ham biscuits; and French toast made with Kindred Restaurant’s famed milk bread.
“The Centurion Lounge menu is inspired by our restaurants Kindred and Hello, Sailor, as well as our local North Carolina cuisine, to give travelers visiting the Centurion Lounge a look into what they can experience in the evolving Charlotte restaurant scene,” Kindred said in a press release.
Kindred’s dishes will be available free of charge among the lounge’s buffet offerings. The complimentary bar will also serve cocktails by Jim Meehan, author of Meehan’s Bartender Manual. —Kristen Wile
