City of Charlotte announces grants for restaurants
Food Service Recovery Grant Program will distribute funds to restaurants, bars, food trucks, and caterers
On Monday, the City of Charlotte announced the Food Service Recovery Grant Program, which will provide $4 million to Charlotte businesses in the food and beverage industry that have been negatively impacted by Covid-19. The period to apply for a grant runs from Monday, September 21 to Monday, October 19, and grant funding will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
Any restaurant, bar, food truck, or caterer with five or fewer employees are eligible for $10,000 in grant money. Those businesses with six or more employees can be awarded $25,000. Around 350 local businesses will be awarded grant money. Eligibility guidelines are as follows: the business must be headquartered within Charlotte city limits, have been in business before January 1 of this year, earned revenue of more than $30,000 in 2019, cannot be currently engaged in bankruptcy proceedings, and cannot be a non-profit, liquor store or adult entertainment establishment.
In addition to the grant program, the city will be launching the StreetEats program, which will provide $400,000 to the local food and beverage industry with particular emphasis on restaurants. The StreetEats program will use the city’s right of way, private streets, and parking lots to encourage more outdoor dining to support local restaurants struggling during the on-going pandemic.
The first StreetEats event will take place on Thomas Avenue in Plaza Midwood in the weeks to come, with more locations citywide to follow.
