Babalu Tacos & Tequila, on East Boulevard in Dilworth, has closed. The restaurant opened in the summer of 2016 after extensive building renovations. They closed in anticipation of Hurricane Florence on Friday and did not reopen. A South Charlotte location, in the Waverly development, will open in 2019. See the restaurant’s comment below.

“Yesterday, we did announce that we have decided to close the restaurant permanently.

We committed to a new location in Waverly quite a while ago, but now that the center is open and so many brands have found success there, we have been tweaking the plans for our space and making some design changes. Unfortunately this has put us behind schedule. The gap between having two locations open in the Charlotte metro to support each other has grown too big for us to continue to build more business and brand awareness for Dilworth so we made the decision to close so that we can focus on Waverly.” —Kristen Wile
