20-Buck Bottle: Intense, flexible Greek red

Red Agiorgitiko that can take a chill and a grill

Kouros Agiorgitiko 2016, Nemea, Greece

Available at: Foxcroft Wine Co.
Price: $15.99

On the nose: Warm spices, black cherry, cola, vanilla
On the palate:  Plum, dry, balanced tannin
On the plate: Cheesesteaks, burgers, rib eye, lamb, eggplant parmesan

Our take: This wine can take a slight chill, drinking well around 62°

Fun fact: How do you say this grape? Ah-yor-YEE-ti-ko — the Greek language does not use a hard g. Nemea is in the northeast section of the Peloponnese province. This area is famous for olives, olive oil, wine, and Greek mythology. Agiorgitiko is similar to cabernet sauvignon, and is the fourth-highest produced red wine in Greece.
