Volo Ristorante will open today, Monday, Nov. 18, for dinner service. It is located in the former Lumiere space in Myers Park. The name Volo, Italian for flight, reflects the menu’s concept of presenting a flight of food with selections from the land, sea, or garden. The themed flights include an appetizer, salad, entrée, and dessert at a set price. Guests are also invited to order a la carte if they prefer.

Owner Domenico Marsocci hails from upstate New York. He previously managed sports bars with the goal to open an Italian concept in honor of his Italian heritage. To create Volo, he partnered with Marco Antenucci, the restaurant’s general manager. Antenucci, who is from Italy, moved to Charlotte a few years ago to escape hurricane season in Miami and worked for Frank Scibelli at Mama Ricotta’s, then Chef Gabriele Grigolon of Aqua e Vino. Volo’s executive chef is Johann Giraldo.

The restaurant has made some basic changes former Lumiere space, including the addition of a 13-seat bar with a robust cocktail program. The 63-seat dining area is a soft, cool blue and aims for casual sophistication.

All pasta will be made in house, including orecchiette, gnocchi, and ravioli. In addition to pasta, the proteins include lamb chops, Cornish hen, filet mignon, and prawns. The mozzarella and burrata are imported from Italy. Antipasti include scallops, Salumeria, and octopus. There is an extensive wine list that is 90 percent Italian, with a solid by-the-glass list.

The restaurant will be open daily including late on Friday and Saturday nights. Guests can order from a well-curated small plates menu after 10 p.m. seven days a week. Marsocci will add a variety of live music performances in a few weeks, from piano jazz to violin, as well as lunch hours in the coming months. The restaurant’s Sunday hours are a welcome addition to the Myers Park neighborhood, as are the late evening options.  —Anita Skogland
