Our Take: This is the best tannat-based red I have had in few years.
Fun Fact: From 1900 to 1920, there was a great migration from Italy to Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, as well as the east coast of the United States. In Italy, there was acute poverty, food shortages, war, and no work. Many of the Italians from wine growing regions took cuttings from their vines and planted grapes when they landed. Italian farmers believed in minimal intervention with grape growing. The cool growing area of Canelones allows for this farming style. This winery lets the grapes shine by using native yeast and no sulfites. This is a pure distillation of the tannat grape, which is delicious, reasonably priced, and is the most planted grape in Uruguay.
