This consistent producer is a smart end-of-summer buy
2020 Schloss Gobelsburg Gruner Veltliner, Kamptal, Austria
Available at: Corkscrew, Kingsley, Fort Mill
Price: $21
On the Nose: Fresh, bright green aromas of grass and tarragon
On the Palate: Medium+ acidity balanced with stone fruit and pear
On the Plate: Scalloped potatoes, creamy corn soup, fresh cabbage salad, carrot kugel, roast pork
Our Take: This producer makes very consistent wine year to year, which is quite a tribute considering all the climate impacts the last 10 years on vineyards.
Fun Fact: Schloss Gobelsburg has been making wine continuously for 850 years. It is the largest wine producer in the Kamptal region of Austria. Corkscrew — a wine and cocktail bar in Fort Mill’s Kingsley development — is new to our coverage. It has a beautiful layout, lots of natural light, a comprehensive but pricey wine list, and a select small plate menu. It is also a retail store. They offer half-priced wines on select bottles on Monday and Tuesday, and a wine tasting of 4 samples for $10 on Wednesday.
