20-buck bottle: A dry Slovenian furmint

Great values can be found among lesser-known grapes

    Wine: Kobal Furmint
    Available at: Bond Street Wines
    Price: $19.99

On the nose: Peachy, with some salinity

On the palate: Notes of tart stone fruit, with a minerality to it

On the plate: We’d love this wine chilled with a mayo-based shrimp or lobster roll.

Our take: Furmint is known mostly for being used in Hungarian wine Tokaji, but this dry version from Slovenia is an easy drinker. It has a light to medium body and is balanced, but leans towards acidic. You can get great values from under-discovered wine regions like Slovenia, and this is certainly one. We think this wine is best sipped cold. —Kristen Wile
