20-Buck Bottle: A Côtes du Rhône that I called yummy
With dark fruits, raspberry, and a hint of clove, this wine fits the season
by Anita Skogland
2019 L’O Domaine du Joncier Côtes du Rhône
Available at: The Culture Shop, Plaza Midwood/Belmont
Price: $17
On The Nose: Lots of ripe dark fruits and red raspberry, hint of clove
On The Palate: Very jammy flavors but balanced with a medium+ body and long finish
On The Plate: Beef burgers, black bean chili, pork ribs, grilled eggplant
Our Take: A rich but appealing red, made of grenache and two percent cinsault, with 14.5 percent alcohol that is well integrated
Fun Fact: Wine maker Marine Roussel started her career as a graphic artist, and eventually made her way back to her home in Côtes du Rhône, where she took over wine production from her father in 1989. She has changed the canopy of the grapes to insure that the crop is not overexposed to sun, and achieved both organic and biodynamic certifications for the vineyards. This wine was stored in concrete underground concrete to control temperature and quality.
